October 15, 2025 – There’s something special about guiding travelers who are genuinely curious and open to experiencing the real Kochi. This wonderful couple from the USA gave me one of those perfect tour days where everything just clicked.

Kochi Castle: Where History Comes Alive

We started the day at Kochi Castle, one of Japan’s best-preserved original castles. Standing at the commemorative date marker on October 15th, Reiwa 7, they soaked in the history and architecture of this stunning fortress.

Walking through the castle’s interior corridors and learning about its samurai past always creates that “stepping back in time” feeling that makes Kochi Castle so special.

Chikurinji Temple: A Peaceful Forest Sanctuary

After the castle, we ventured to Chikurinji Temple, nestled in the forested hills of Mt. Godaisan. The peaceful atmosphere and traditional architecture offered a perfect contrast to the bustling city.

Watching them explore the temple grounds together, taking photos and enjoying quiet moments, reminded me why I love sharing these special places with visitors.

Makino Botanical Garden: Nature’s Beauty

We continued to the Makino Botanical Garden, dedicated to Dr. Tomitaro Makino, the “Father of Japanese Botany.” The lush greenery and diverse plant collections provided a refreshing escape into nature.

The Highlight: Seared Bonito Tataki 🐟🔥

But perhaps the most memorable moment came at a small local restaurant specializing in Kochi’s famous dish – Katsuo Tataki (seared bonito).

When he said it was “the best bonito ever!” 🐟, I couldn’t help but smile. That’s the magic of authentic local cuisine prepared with care and tradition.

A Touch of Modern Japan: Don Quijote

We wrapped up the day with a visit to Don Quijote, the famous Japanese discount store. The colorful chaos and unique products offered a fun glimpse into everyday Japanese shopping culture – a perfect contrast to the historical sites we’d visited earlier.

The Best Part: Genuine Connection

What made this tour truly special wasn’t just the sights – it was watching this lovely couple support each other throughout the day. Their warmth, curiosity, and appreciation for both grand temples and small local restaurants reminded me why I love what I do.
