Kochi Cultural Cycling Tour – with Licensed Local Guide & Premium Minivan (Toyota Alphard)
Photo Highlights
Images from my gallery, related to this tour.
Most tours show you Kochi from the inside of a car or on foot. This one puts you on a bicycle along the Pacific coast — which is a completely different experience.
We start at the Konan City Cycling Terminal, a seaside base on Yasuda Bay in eastern Kochi. From there, we ride along quiet coastal roads through fishing villages, with the ocean to one side and the hills to the other. The route is mostly flat and the pace is relaxed — this isn’t a sport cycling tour, it’s a way to move through a beautiful part of Kochi at the right speed to actually notice it.
Along the way, we stop at Ekingura Museum to see the theatrical paintings of Ekin — vivid, dramatic works that were once banned for being too intense. Next door is Benten Theater, a kabuki playhouse that’s been standing for over a century, with a revolving stage and wooden galleries that still look exactly as they did when it was built. Guests are welcome to walk the stage themselves.
I ride with you the whole way, sharing stories about the area and taking photos as we go. The Toyota Alphard follows as a support vehicle, so if anyone needs a break at any point, the option is always there.

I offer a convenient door-to-door meet-up service using a luxury Toyota Alphard. I can meet you at any of the following locations: Kochi New Port (Cruise Ship Terminal), Kochi Ryoma Airport (KCZ), JR Kochi Train Station, or any hotel or accommodation within Kochi City. Please inform me of your preferred meet-up location and time in advance. I will be there to welcome you and start our Kochi adventure in comfort.
Konan City Cycling Terminal is a seaside base for cycling enthusiasts, located near the beautiful Yasuda Bay in eastern Kochi. It offers easy access to scenic coastal routes, rental e-bikes, and rest facilities with ocean views. From here, you can enjoy riding along quiet seaside roads connecting local fishing villages, beaches, and cultural spots like Ekingura Museum and Benten Theater.
Ekingura Museum in Akaoka showcases the dramatic festival paintings of Ekin, a 19th-century artist famous for his vivid and sometimes shocking depictions of kabuki scenes. The museum recreates the atmosphere of nighttime street festivals where his works were originally displayed by lantern light. (Note: Ekingura Museum is closed on Mondays.)
Benten Theater is a beautifully restored traditional kabuki playhouse in Akaoka, originally built over 100 years ago. It features a revolving stage, trapdoors, and wooden galleries, all preserved in their original style. Today, the theater still hosts local performances, and depending on the schedule, visitors may have the chance to step onto the stage themselves.
Enjoy lunch at a small local restaurant loved by residents of Konan City. Savor regional specialties from Kochi’s coast — a perfect break during your seaside cycling adventure.
After lunch, we’ll enjoy a relaxing ride back to the Konan City Cycling Terminal, return the bikes, and drive back to Kochi city.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be an experienced cyclist to join this tour?
No experience is needed. The coastal route is mostly flat and the pace is relaxed — we’re here to enjoy the scenery, not to cover distance quickly. If you haven’t cycled in a while, that’s completely fine. E-bikes are also available upon request, which makes the ride even easier. Please let me know in advance if you’d like one.
Is this tour suitable for cruise ship passengers?
Yes. The Konan City area is about 40–50 minutes from Kochi New Port by car. I’ll pick you up directly at the cruise terminal, and the Toyota Alphard follows the cycling route as a support vehicle throughout the day. You’ll be back at the port well before your ship departs.
What if someone in our group doesn’t want to cycle?
That’s no problem at all. The Toyota Alphard travels alongside the cycling group the entire time, so anyone who prefers to ride in the car — or who needs a break partway through — can do so at any point. The tour works well for mixed groups where some people want to cycle and others prefer to watch and join at the cultural stops.
What happens if it rains?
Light rain doesn’t necessarily cancel the tour — coastal cycling in light rain can still be enjoyable, and the cultural stops at Ekingura and Benten Theater are both indoors. If rain is heavy or conditions are unsafe for cycling, I’ll adjust the itinerary and we’ll do the cultural visits by car instead. I’ll contact you in advance if the forecast looks problematic.
Are children allowed on this tour?
This tour is recommended for ages 12 and above for safety reasons. Teenagers are very welcome, and the cycling route and cultural stops tend to be a big hit with younger guests. Children under 12 are not recommended for the cycling portion, but if your family includes younger children, please contact me — I may be able to suggest an alternative arrangement.
How long is the cycling portion, and how difficult is it?
The total cycling distance is roughly 5–8 kilometers each way along the coast, with stops at Ekingura and Benten Theater along the route. The terrain is flat and the roads are quiet. Most guests find the pace comfortable and enjoyable rather than tiring. If you have concerns about physical fitness, e-bikes are the ideal solution.
Is this a private tour?
Yes, completely private. It’s just you and your group — no strangers sharing the route or the guide. The price is per group (up to 6 people), which makes it excellent value for families or small groups traveling together.
How do I book this tour?
Click the “Send a Message” button on this page to contact me directly. Let me know your preferred date, group size, whether you’d like e-bikes, and any other requests. I typically respond within 12 hours. No payment is required upfront — we’ll confirm all the details before anything is finalized.
